The international start-up, ola launched their series of electric scooters for customers for a ride in india. However, customers across the country have been noticing a range discrepancy between what they see on the app and what the scooter is reporting.
In an email to Livemint, ola says that there may be an incorrect representation of battery status which could lead to an incorrect reading on rider’s mobile app. A spokesperson clarified that it only shows 181 km till full charge and 135 km after it starts blinking red.
Our analysis shows that even after the scooter starts blinking red, it doesn’t show full charge. As a result, a rider seeing the range of 135 km on the phone may end up not being able to cover their daily travel, if they ride beyond this point.
While there are several factors which contribute to the final reading, ola said that it takes into account battery temperature and usage pattern. It also looks at other factors like environmental conditions, whether it is a rise or fall in temperature etc.
